LOCAL EVANGELISM: FROM OUR NEIGHBORHOOD…

Montgomery County (MoCo) is the most populous county in Maryland. Located adjacent to Washington D.C, the US census estimates the county is home to more than 1,052,567 in 2018 (6.05 million in MD). MoCo consists of the county’s largest cities: Bethesda, Rockville, and Silver Spring. Its major cities are also some of the most ethnically diverse cities in the US: Gaithersburg, Germantown, Silver Spring, and Rockville. MoCo also has the highest percentage (29.2%) of residents over the age of 25 who hold post-graduate degrees. The county has been ranked as one of the wealthiest in the United States, 2nd in Maryland, next to Howard County.

Ethnic Make-Up: As of July 2018, the US Census Bureau estimates 60.2% Whites, 19.9% Blacks, 19.9% Hispanic or Latinos, 15.6% Asians, 3.4% two or more ethnicities, 0.7% American Indians, and 0.1% Native Hawaiians or Pacific Islanders represent MoCo.

Religious Make-Up: 14% are self-professing Catholics, 5% are Baptists, 3% are Methodists, 1% are Presbyterians, 1% are Episcopalians, 1% are Latter-Day Saints, 1% are Lutheran, 6% are of another Christian faith, 3% are Jewish, 1% are Muslim, and 1% are an eastern faith. Overall, 41% of the county’s residents are affiliated with a religion.

Jesus calls us to “make disciples of all nations.” Therefore, we are committed to proclaiming the Gospel, that “every nation, tribe, people, and language” (Revelations 7:9), will come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We do this through prayer, through sending out and supporting missionaries, and by raising up pastors to plant churches. Please join us in praying that we would faithfully proclaim the Gospel and that we would grow in our capacity to reach the nations through our giving, support, and cooperation.
